School of Hotel Administration
The mission of Cornell's School of Hotel Administration is to shape the global knowledge base in hospitality management. Realizing that vision requires outstanding performance on the two activities that are central to the mission: creating and sharing knowledge about hospitality management. The School creates knowledge through research then shares it through teaching, publication, and the development of strong relationships within the industry.
This vision reaches beyond the objective of educating the leaders of the global hospitality industry. The hospitality industry has grown too large and too complex for a single school to maintain preeminence solely through the influence of its graduates. To be the industry’s leading educational institution into the future, the School looks forward to dramatically expanding the reach of the knowledge it creates, while enhancing its rigor and relevance.
Commitment to global leadership is evident in many ways:
Joint Degree Program - Asia
In the fall of 2004, Cornell and Nanyang Technological University created a joint Master of Management in Hospitality program, to be housed at Nanyang's campus in Singapore. The Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management will offer a graduate program beginning in May 2006. The alliance creates the first joint degree program for both institutions and the first graduate hospitality program in Asia.
The School has articulation agreements with several other universities in Asia. In Europe, the Hotel School is currently evaluating possible academic partnerships, to build on its longstanding presence in that market.
Research with a Global Imprint
The Center for Hospitality Research produces studies that help improve operating practices around the world. Scholars and executives from every continent routinely visit the content-rich website, and the news media reports on the Center's research activity in news outlets with global reach.
Educating Executives the World Over
The Executive Education programs, held primarily in the United States and Europe, draw industry leaders from all points. Each year more than 1,000 professionals learn from the School's esteemed faculty and apply that knowledge from Bangkok to Brussels. This year Cornell is delivering 17 custom-designed programs for clients in 14 countries.
A Worldly Alumni Network
The Cornell Hotel Society, as the alumni group is known, has 61 chapters in 24 countries. Chapters in Europe and Asia are especially active and provide the School with powerful industry networks in their regions.
