College of Architecture, Art, and Planning
International study programs are an essential component of the curricula of the College of Architecture, Art and Planning, and reflect the global nature of the practices and research represented by its faculty and students. The Cornell-in-Rome program (celebrating its 20th year in 2006) is primarily intended for students majoring in Architecture, Art and City and Regional Planning, but is also open on a selective basis to other students interested in architecture, landscape architecture, fine arts, art history, urban studies, and city planning. Launched in 2004, the Brazilian Cities summer program, offered through the collaboration of the Department of City and Regional Planning and the Latin American Studies Program, examines issues of housing, transportation, urban facilities, democratic governance, and the environment through on-site study in Brasilia, Belém, and Rio de Janeiro.
The Creative Writing Workshop and Art Studio in Rome (a summer program available to students of all disciplines and sponsored jointly by the Art and English Departments) sets artistic practice within a uniquely rich cultural/historical context. The Architecture Department has a long history of offering summer design studios that have traveled to China, Japan, Eastern and Western Europe, Scandinavia and South America. The college looks forward to expanding its presence in Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

International Studies in Planning
In the year 2025, 65 percent of the world's population will live in cities. For this reason, cities, their inhabitants, and the regions they dominate have become central concerns for students of international development. Since 1971, CRP's Program on International Studies in Planning (ISP) has helped students understand the dynamic social, economic, and political context of urban and regional development.
