Projects and Initiatives
International projects and initiatives of all shapes and sizes can be found throughout the University. Cornell’s commitment to expansion in this area is evident in the creation of a new position, the Vice Provost for International Relations, who is directly charged with supporting new international initiatives on campus. Individual units have taken similar steps to ensure the continued increase of projects, programs, and initiatives focusing on international topics and themes. For example, in April of 2005 the Weill Medical College appointed Steve P. Rosalie, a long time senior administrator, as the Associate Provost for International Initiatives. This action clearly demonstrates the Medical College's commitment to advancing their international scope, transnational reach, and global vision for medicine in the 21st century.
Examples of major initiatives include the Bridging the Rift Initiative which is a joint undertaking being developed by Cornell University and Stanford University in collaboration and at the invitation of Bridging the Rift Foundation (BTR) whose single goal is to contribute to peace in the Middle East. Another, the African Food Security and Natural Resources Management (AFSNRM) is a thematic, interdisciplinary program launched by the Cornell International Institute for Food, Agriculture and Development (CIIFAD) with an initial geographic focus on eastern and southern Africa. The aim of this initiative is to advance interdisciplinary research, training, and outreach integrating the biology of multi-species and agrosilvopastoral systems with the economics of farmer behavior.
For every major university-wide initiative there are countless smaller projects thriving within departments, programs, and other units across the campus. From the Brazilian Cities Summer Program, which sends students to Brazil for summer coursework, to the Central Europe Human Resource Education Initiative, which assists colleges, universities, businesses, and other stakeholders with the development of human resource management, and training practices in organizations in Central and Eastern Europe, Cornell’s international involvement is as diverse as the University itself.

ILR International Programs (IP) is pleased to announce a small grant program for members of the ILR community (faculty, extension associates, staff, and students) for international activities. This program is not intended to be used to fund individual research or travel. Rather, it is designed to help provide funding for international activities that involve MULTIPLE constituents of the ILR School (faculty, students, alumni, labor, management, governments), while simultaneously raising ILR's international profile. IP will set aside a maximum of $12,000 per year to fund one or two (at most) proposals prepared by the ILR community.
One condition of this program is that recipients commit to some sort of "public" deliverable (e.g., prepare reports or provide abstracts of papers from conferences that can be shared publicly on this ILR website). The specific "deliverable" in each case will be negotiated by the recipient of the grant and the IP faculty committee.

UNU Food and Nutrition Programme
Unit:
College of Human Ecology
Since 1975 when the United Nations University Council designated hunger as a major focus, the United Nations University’s Food and Nutrition Programme (UNU-FNP) has made major contributions to training, research, institution building, and policy formation particularly in developing countries.
The Programme is dedicated to improving lives through the generation of new knowledge and by providing access to current food and nutrition information within institutions. This knowledge is then applied at a grassroots level by in-country individual nutrition professionals and practitioners.
